About Me

My name is Janis Byars. I grew up in Arcadia, California and then went to the University of California at Santa Barbara where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Sociology.  During my time at UCSB, I spent one semester living in Madrid, Spain where I learned how to communicate in Spanish.  After attending UC Santa Barbara, I went to Sierra Nevada College in Lake Tahoe where I earned both my California and Nevada teaching credentials. I have my Masters Degree in Human Behavior, a California Bilingual Certificate for teaching in Spanish, and my Administrators Credential.  I have taught in Monrovia Unified School District (4 years), Torrance Unified School District (14 years) and Redondo Beach Unified School District (10 years) in the second, third, fourth and fifth grades.  

I live here in Redondo Beach with my husband, Brad, and our two amazing children, Amy (age 17) and Ethan (age 14), who both attend Redondo Union High School.  In my spare time I like to do things with my family, read, exercise, walk our 9 year old boxer mix (Montana), and go to the beach.  I feel very lucky to be part of the Beryl Community and I am looking forward to a fantastic year with my third graders!
