Mrs. Byars- 5th Grade- Room 19
My name is Janis Byars. I grew up in Arcadia, California and then went to the University of California at Santa Barbara where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Sociology. During my time at UCSB, I spent one semester living in Madrid, Spain where I learned how to communicate in Spanish. After attending UC Santa Barbara, I went to Sierra Nevada College in Lake Tahoe where I earned both my California and Nevada teaching credentials. I earned my Masters Degree in Human Behavior at National University in 2006, and I also have my California Bilingual Certificate for teaching in Spanish. I have taught in Monrovia Unified School District (4 years), Torrance Unified School District (14 years) and Redondo Beach Unified School District (6 years) in the second, third, fourth and fifth grades.
I live here in Redondo Beach with my husband, Brad, and our two amazing children, Amy (age 12) and Ethan (age 9), who go to Adams Middle School and Washington Elementary School. In my spare time I like to do things with my family, walk our 4 year old boxer (Montana), and go to the beach. I feel very lucky to be part of the Beryl Bunch and am looking forward to a fantastic year with my fifth graders!
