Support for RBUSD Families

As the holiday season approaches, we recognize that this time of year can be particularly challenging for some families, especially with recent economic uncertainties and the suspension of certain federal services. We want our families to know that you are not alone. Our wonderful Child Nutrition Services team continues to provide free school breakfast and lunch for all students, ensuring that every child is nourished and ready to learn.

If your family could use additional support, please review our South Bay Family Resource List for local assistance programs. You can also reach out to your child’s school counselor, who can help connect your family with school-based and community resources.

For those who would like to lend a helping hand, there are several ways to support local families in need this season:

RUHS PTSA Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive

In partnership with the Redondo Beach Police Department, Freedom 4U, Hearts Respond, and the Long Beach Rescue Mission, we invite you to contribute to this year’s food drive.  Items needed include:  Stuffing mix, instant potatoes, gravy mix, macaroni and cheese, dried soup, instant pudding, canned corn, canned yams, canned green beans, cranberry sauce, rice, canned beans, dried pasta, and pasta sauce.

Donation Options:

  1. RUHS Front Office: Drop off donations Monday–Friday, November 3–7, from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at One Sea Hawk Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277
  2. Drive-Thru Drop-Off: Sunday, November 9, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Police Annex Parking Lot (next to the RUHS Auditorium at 200 N Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach, CA 90277)

Project Unified

In collaboration with RBUSD PTSA, each school’s PTA/PTSA will host Project Unified, which provides holiday gifts for local families in need. Families and staff can anonymously “adopt” a student or family. Please contact your school’s Project Unified PTA representative to participate—no gift is too small to make a difference!

South Bay Food Initiative at RUHS

The RUHS South Bay Food Initiative Club, in partnership with The Volunteer Center and local food banks, is collecting canned goods, dry goods, and grocery gift cards to help families throughout the 2025–26 school year. Donations can be dropped off at the RUHS Front Office Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at One Sea Hawk Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277

In addition, RBUSD keeps a list of resources for students experiencing homelessness on our district website at RBUSD Homelessness and Unaccompanied Youth webpage.
