100 Mile Club
The 100 Mile Club was started in 1992 by Kara Lubin, a teacher in the Corona-Norco Unified School District. The 100 Mile Club is now a non-profit organization whose sole mission is to provide to everyone the opportunity to experience fitness and TRUE personal success by “Accepting the Challenge” of running 100 miles at school during a single school year. Beryl Heights has once again “Accepted the Challenge”, and we are so excited!
Every member earns a 100 Mile Club t-shirt, which marks their progress through 25, 50, 75, and 100 milestones. We will celebrate these milestones with Award ceremonies four times throughout the year (11/8,1/31, 3/28 & 6/13). Through this journey, your child will practice personal goal setting, team spirit, perseverance, poise, confidence, and honest self-evaluation. When your child reaches 100 miles, he or she will be awarded with a beautiful gold medal at our Year-End Medal Ceremony where every participant will receive a special certificate celebrating their total miles run.
Students can earn miles several different ways, here’s how it works:
- Join us on Beryl’s track to run/walk on Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 7:40-8:05a and on Wednesdays after school from 1:15-2p. 8 laps around the track = 1 mile.
- Grades 2-5 run during school as part of their curriculum. Logs are posted in each classroom so they can record their laps run during these times. Please make sure your child knows to log their laps.
- Participate in designated charity walk/runs & those miles will count too!
- For those students who are in need of some miles to reach their next milestone, we can add up to 5 miles per award ceremony to their total miles for outside activities. 1 mile for each 20 minutes of exercise that makes him/her breathe hard and sweat.
See you on the track!
